I’m always a bit peeved when people complain about my home state of Utah - “boring” and “nothing to do” are the terms I constantly hear used to describe the Beehive state.  Say what?  Utah has some of the most geographically diverse landscapes anywhere in the United States - just take a look outside your door.

Goblin Valley, Zion National Park, Arches National Park, The Canyons ski resort, Deer Valley, the Uintas…what’s not to love?

Looking for a new and exciting destination for your next family vacation? You may think the perfect getaway lies across the ocean, at a tropical resort or a charming European city, but you’ll be surprised to know that some of the best vacation spots are right in your own backyard. For a new vacation spot that is as exciting as it is affordable, consider a domestic hotspot. Read on for ideas and suggestions.

The Golden State
California is the ultimate relaxing vacation destination, one filled with activities and sights apt for the whole family. Kid-friendly attractions include Disneyland Resort (naturally) while Los Angeles, San Diego, and San Francisco all boast fabulous shopping, dining, and world-renowned sites. In addition, California’s miles of coastline make for the perfect beach vacation with balmy temperatures, ideal surfing conditions, and water-front accommodations.

The Big Apple
New York City, perhaps one of the most notable cities in the country (if not world), is a bustling melting pot of different cultures and experiences. The city is a world center for fashion, finance, the arts, and business. Attractions (as if you didn’t already know) include the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, Times Square, Central Park, Ground Zero, and the Broadway district. In addition, New York City has some of the best dining (from cheap to ultra expensive), shopping, and theatre in the country.

Southwest Paradise
While Arizona may not be the first place that comes to mind, it is a fabulous location for a vacation anytime of the year, especially if you enjoy the great outdoors. Because it has year-round warm temperatures, Arizona has some of the best spa resorts and golf courses in the country, great for winter getaways. In addition, northern Arizona is home to scenic woodlands, perfect for spending time outdoors and getting in tune with nature. Try an Arizona vacation rental (a condo or cabin); you can enjoy four wheeling, hiking, fishing, swimming, and a myriad of other outdoor activities.

The Greatest Snow on Earth
That is Utah’s claim to fame, with over 20 world-class ski resorts, including Deer Valley, Park City Mountain, and Alta. Salt Lake City and Park City are winter playgrounds for the whole family, filled with a myriad of snow sports, world-class accommodations, and fabulous dining.

My parents recently just went on a Swiss hiking tour with The Adventure 100, a company that specializes in guided outdoor adventures all over the world.  The trips are customized and consist of small groups, which allow each guest individual attention and personalized service.

I have to say I am super only slightly jealous because I would love to go on a guided tour somewhere exotic with gorgeous scenery.  And how fun would a guided tour be, especially considering I have a tendency to get lost.

Well, great news for me!  The Adventure 100 travels all over the world to places such as Machu Picchu (Peru), Thailand, and New Zealand.  Anyone up for some adventure?
